I read a funny article about a few of my colleagues here in San Diego and the success they've had marketing to the MySpace generation. It was in the Voice of San Diego and this article featured an agent named Seth O'Byrne. I have communicated with Seth a few times and can tell you that this is a young man that has his pulse on the 20 something market.
Nicolette Fontaine was featured in this article about her marketing on Myspace. Active Rain was also mentioned in this article by Jessica Diaz.
Business Week writes about how the MySpace Generation is used to receiving information instantaneously. It's obvious that technology and speed will be quick to capture these teens and twenty-somethings when they start buying homes in 3-10 years.

Hey myspace buddy.... lol Hey, I since being introduced to Active, I don't frequent myspace that much anymore. You are correct in stating that this could be a big market to tap into, down the road. But just so many immature people on it. Too much BS in regards to many of the groups. But Brian does have a good group and I make sure the BS stays out of my networking group. Hey Brian,
I requested you as a friend. My page is:

Susan,
We are friends now and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
PS- Is that picture I used of you?
Sorry Maureen,
Try again; it should be okay now. By the way, you should definitely have exposure on MySpace; you are a master blogger!
Maybe a Carnival of MySpace?
Great insight Brian.
With a keen sense of demographics, trends are pretty easy to spot - you just have to ponder what things will be like in the year 2014. If you're looking for the grownup version of MySpace (for real estate), consider LinkedIn.
I'm on it, Bill and have been for 2- 3 years. It lacks interconnectivity that MySpace has. MySpace has grown up.
I am here: http://www.linkedin.com/in/brianbrady
Brian,
That's not me but I have a black tank top that says:
"Google Me"
Do you ryze? I have a page on there also but I haven't much luck with it. Also meetup.....& a few others....
I like active rain the BEST though!
Brian.... linkedin.... 2 to 3 years..... what have you gotten from this?
thanks, jeff
Yes - I would agree. The folks at LinkeIn have taken a very conservative position on open API, intergation, and stuff like that. I can understand why of course - the identity and security issue is important and the folks they target are not too tolerant of abuse.
MySpace has a more liberal feel to it and I suspect the audience resembles this casual online experience and greater openness.
Hello,
I requested you as a friend. My myspace page:
http://www.myspace.com/qintlrealestate
Let's all be friends. Here is myspace...
Profile: http://www.myspace.com/floridamortgageplanner
Group: http://groups.myspace.com/certifiedmortgageplanner
I must say that I have not started to use myspace, but I need to transfer my blogs from here to there and in my group. I think I recently joined linkedin, but I am not sure. I will add my linked in if i can find it.
I live in AR, and I don't get out much.
I have had quite a bit of luck marketing my services on another networking site, www.facebook.com
Facebook is targeted toward college students, grads, and graduate students. It has bee opened up to businesses recently as a way to recruit new hires. I have used it to network with potential first-time homebuyers and investors. In fact, someone who was a facebook contact called me today to set up a buyers' consultation and prequalification meeting with our loan officer for next tuesday. Another facebook contact emailed me today asking for a meeting next saturday. I also used the facebook site to create a "Southeastern PA Real Estate" group, which may develop into another lead stream for me, as well.
You can link to my profile there through this link. (You have to join to be able to actually see it, though.)
Robert -
"but I need to transfer my blogs from here to there"
I don't follow this comment -- why do you need to do that, and what's the benefit? Is there like an automatic import that makes it easy?
bf
Bill, no there isn't an automatic import button for blogs on MySpace.
Robert, you could start another blog on MySpace and leave your current blog intack. I have 3 blogs that I operate all on different topics and something these overlap. Multiple blogs is a great online strategy.
I have many people try to connect with me via MySpace, http://www.myspace.com/goingbigger, for real estate/business purposes and I have declined all offers.
For business purposes MySpace is still MySpace and the platform MySpaces uses is very junkie, IMO. The blog platform is not searchable by SEs (as far as I know) and most profiles are so junked up with crap that they take forever to load.
I think I am disagreeing with you Brian :P but your right on the value of social networking and why I believe ActiveRain will the social networking site for anyone concerned about real estate.
This is a good old fashioned myspace lovefest with everyone making friends. Where the hell are Caleb & Matt's Myspace?
By the way, Nima is the complete AR evangelizer in MySpace. He should win the award for most annoying (to myspacers) and most evangelical (for rainers). He is promoting AR EXTREMELY well on myspace. Nima and I beat Jeff Belonger into submission with our contsant badgering about AR to him....look at him now.
Susan: I don't ryze, Susan. You're prettier than the girl on my blog (some good old fashioned myspace flirting)
Jeff: linked in has produced some good Realtor contacts for me. My problem has been that they are tekkies and I'm not. Those Realtors market to tekkies and the tekkie clients don't work well with me. (just not my niche). I did, however, write a $800,000 loan in Florida last year from a Realtor on linkedin. It was a low margin nightmare.
Vivien and Robert: we're friends on myspace but I considered you friends before then.
Rich: You'll understand why I won't even try Facebook. I don't even want to open it. Between Myspace, linkedin, and AR I have caused my wife to become a widow to online networking. Please don't suggest that it's a good networking tool. I have limited my crack intake to three sites.
Let me comment that MySpace and Active Rain are no comparison to each other. I'm glad that the AR Gods recognized that and included this post as a featured post. AR is the here and now. It's for serious people who want to buy or sell real estate and get good advice forom the creme de la creme of the industry . Marketing on MySpace allows you to keep your name in front of the NEXT generation of buyers. There is a lot of clutter on Myspace. It CAN be effective if you recognize that.
Toby,
We agree.
MySpace is a junky blog platform. I'm saying that a presence on myspace is to 2006 what a presence was on the www in 1996. You just have to have one no matter what you do with it.
In 1996, I never dreamed Web 2.0 would exist but I knew I needed a website in 1998. I think Myspace is the "junky" prototype to the next big webolution
Bill,
It is just cut and paste to get the info over to the myspace site so there is something for that community. That's all.
My space is my fourth blog. I just just want to keep my featured AR posts on all and then add varying content to each. That is my plan.
I did find my Linkedin info. Here it is...
http://www.linkedin.com/in/floridamortgageplanner
Brian, I was rethinking my post when the update came to my email box. There are many major companies that have set up MySpace profiles and the one that comes to my mind is Jack in the Box.
Using MySpace to creat further awareness is a great idea and I was premature when pouncing on the idea. Now I am thinking of setting a company profile :P The web is always evolving and to stay competive it might be wise to jump on it even if my personal bias tells me not too.
Toby,
The light bulb went off for me when i saw an ad on TV for a band or concert or album or TV show and they suggested to go to their webpage as www.myspace.com/xxxyyy
I realized that myspace has created its own platform. Junky, provocative, unregulated, risque, foul, and EFFECTIVE.
It;s kind of like settling a land claim the Old West
"It;s kind of like settling a land claim the Old West"
great anology and your right again, EFFECTIVE. There are many bands in my area and the radio is full of people reference their MySpace over their website and I guess it could translate over to real estate too, hmmmm, now you have me thinking.
Thanks Toby and Brian - I'm looking and learning.
I'm an old grandpa and all these MySpace youngin's and their new online dialects are makin' me a tad nervous. ;-) There's some pretty strange s**t up there - and that's apolite way to say it.
"It;s kind of like settling a land claim the Old West"
More like Chicago in the 30's - Cappone and other ruthless gangsters (er, I mean gangstas).
Robert -
"It is just cut and paste to get the info over to the myspace site so there is something for that community..."
Yea - that makes sense - and there's no risk of the duplicate content issue because there's no search index penetration from inside that space. Too bad they just don't support dynamic RSS integration - you could just simulcast all blog posts automatically right into your space.
Bill, You are cracking me up. You actually spelled gangsta right (in myspace talk).
nOw yoU haVe to StArt wRitINg liKe DIS
Got me looking at it and I've created a new account at MySpace. I had one before, and it got overrun by trash and I didn't really worry to much about it (was personal, not professional).
So the new and improved is...

Brian,
You did remember that we are "Friends," right?
www.MySpace.com/kitsaplife
Excellent advice!!! I have a lot of friends that are on myspace and a few of them that are realtors. I'm 33 now and have never come around to making a myspace page but I am definitely getting ready to do so. I can see how important it will be. I'll see you guys there also. - Aloha
Well then... I will have to look you all up and "become your friends..."
Or, you can check us out HERE.
My "alter ego" has a myspace profile. That lady is a thirty-something computer science major dropout from USC. But although it seemed like a fun, therapeutic idea, I never had time to finish building that fictional character. She's a lot like me, mainly just a lot younger, oh, and she doesn't know real estate bizness from a rat's behind. :-) I guess it's time to reveal the "real" me on myspace.
MySpace isn't for the teeny-boppers. I have a MySpace account.
I admit, I got it to communicate with a granddaughter, but I do blog on it, have some pix and oldie music playing. She taught me how to do music, backgrounds and is still ahead of me for many of the toys. We bulletin, blog and story about our age, looks, and a few things that could compromise our identity. I've not been approached by a pediphile yet because I 'UPPED" the age, but not to the 103 that I usually claim!
Brian....It is amazing how one blog that you write, you and I thought deserved many comments.... but then you write something just plain and simple..yes, with a meaning behind it.... but it takes of with multiple comments.
Like someone else that said in a comment. The blogs that you thought were good and expecting lots of comments, sometimes it's the other blogs that surprise you.
Good job.... and it's good to see the other side of people in here. Aren't we all kids at some point in life....even as we grow older.... or grow younger.
Hey Brian,
I'll request you as a friend :) Have a great day!

I originally set this up to keep an eye on our three teens and wound up liking it for the music! I'm a bit hestiant to use it for work and since I've started blogging on forums such as AR...it's fallen by the wayside.

In the 21st Century walking down the Red Carpet, all the way realty executives commented on how to
receive the "max". One even remaxed that bankers with that Coldwell look actually understood that
in the reality world one must be commissioned to receive www. MLSPrintouts.com and do
http://www.homesearches.com/ for listings to show and know how to do LoansandHomes.com
in this new era and the "best" way was to act was in a prudential manner and know homevalues in
neighborhoods with internet real estate and watch out for lending trees that lean too hard & that
are not 100% reliable; so the "best" position to take was with a local real estate broker on an Old
Wells Fargo "stage" or better yet in a new "GMAC" to impress the buyers and sellers you really
were " A Real Estate SuperStore,Inc". out to professionally help from the 1st American to the
